AMERICAN CAMP ASSOCIATION (ACA)
Accredited by the American Camp Association, Gilmont meets and exceeds a set of industry standards in the areas of child protection, health and safety. A three year review cycle, Gilmont succeeded in achieving the accredited status from the American Camp Association, in 2013, for the fifth consecutive time since the year 2000.
ACA Accreditation means that Gilmont submitted to a thorough (up to 300 standards) review of its operation by the American Camp Association (ACA) – from staff qualifications and training to emergency management. American Camp Association collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth-serving agencies to assure that current practices at the camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation. Gilmont and ACA form a partnership that promotes summers of growth and fun in an environment committed to safety.
ACA helps all accredited camps provide:
- Healthy, developmentally-appropriate activities and learning experiences
- Discovery through experiential education
- Caring, competent role models
- Service to the community and the environment
- Opportunities for leadership and personal growth
CHRISTIAN CAMP AND CONFERENCE ASSOCIATION (CCA)
Gilmont is proud to be a member of the CCA. This national organization of Christian Camps provides leaders of member organizations with ongoing encouragement, professional training and timely resources. CCA helps improve the performance and impact of its members, and helps expand the member camp’s outreach and increase attendance/occupancy so more people become committed disciples of Jesus Christ.
Kim Truitt, wife of Camp Manger Thomas Truitt, serves on the editorial board for the CCA.
PRESBYTERIAN CAMP AND CONFERENCE ASSOCIATION (PCCCA)
PCCCA has been an important partner in the growth and development of Gilmont. For the past decade, staff and volunteers from Gilmont have attended annual meetings and benefited greatly from the friendships made with fellow Presbyterian Camps and the lessons learned and shared over the years. PCCCA professional consultants from other camps have come to Gilmont and facilitated board retreats, facilities evaluations, and planning efforts at a much discounted rate.
